- My Home District (Derragoon)
The name of my home district is Derragoon. It is situated in the parish of Cloonclare and in the barony Rosselogher. There are eleven families made up of forty-one people in it. Rooney is the most common name in Derragoon. All the houses are tatched with the exception of one. There are two people over seventy in it. They have no knowledge of Irish nor can they tell stories in English or Irish. The two of them live in the same house. Miss Anee McGrath and Mr. Patrick McLoughlin Derragoon. Kiltyclogher. Houses were more numerous long ago and there are nine ruins of houses in the district. People emigrated to America long ago and over twelve people went from this townland in the last few years. Many people emigrate to England now. Some boggy land lies to the southern part of the townland. Two rivers run through the townland. As for streams they are numerous while no lakes exist. Derragoon is of no histories al importance and no stories are connected with it.- Collector
