- (continued from previous page)alone for a few weeks until the green stalks peep above the dry surface. Then they are moulded by lifting the mouls from the bottom of the furrows on a shovel and spreading it lightly over the ridges and stalks. Then the stalks grow up strong and when they are about a foot above the ground they are sprayed with a solution of melted blue stone and washing soda. This is done in order to prevent the blight from appearing among the potato stalks.
- The manure which had previously been brought to the field where the potatoes are going to be set is spread in rows about a foot wide. A bag of "seed" is brought from the house and when that is used another bagful is brought. The "seed" dropped in the following way.
