- A piece of Sallyrod or any other sappy wood about 3 inches long and not very thick was procured. A cut was put through the skin all round about midway. A slanting piece was cut-off one end and a nick taken out about half an inch below this. Then it was tapped with a knife to loosen the skin which was slipped off from the midway cut. The pointed end had a flat piece removed from the nick to the end and the skin put on again. This made a fine whistle. piece of wood with a

A chestnut had a round hole put in the top of the shell and the pulp picked out to make a whistle.
