- (continued from previous page)Easter[.] Wodden noggins were used before cups were introduced. Tea was first used in the year 1846. This was the year of the famine.
- Home made toys are very seldom made except on a wet day when there is nothing to be done. Boys get little pieces of wood nails and a hammer and make a little cart. Then they get dab to make a few horses. The dab is very soft for a few days but at the end of three days it is as hard as a stone. It is easy to break it. They also can make strange little [?]. They clean out the inside of a turnip leaving about [?] of an inch outside. They take a little paint and mark out the eyes mouth and nose with paint on the turnip. The light [is] a short piece of a candle and put it inside.. When it gets dark they leave it some place to scare other children or even grown up people. Girls make(continues on next page)
