- Once upon a time there lived a man and woman and child. The child was only 2 years of age. This couple were not used of children and they thought the child would be able to do anything. This pair were always grunting about their work. This day they proposed the woman would go and do the man's work and that he would stay within and do her work. It happened that mowing was the work this day so she started out with the scythe stone and started mowing. It happened that he had to churn so she put milk in the churn and prepared it for him. But he had to put water in the skittle churning. So he had to go to the well for water. But he thought that if he left the child in the kitchen and went to the well that he would leap into the churn of milk and be drowned. So he took the churn on his back and went to the well for the water. But when he stooped down for the the bucket of water the milk spilt out of the churn into the well. So he started back with his water and put it down in a pot stirabout. Before he put down the pot(continues on next page)
