- (continued from previous page)district now. It is our only local industry.Much money was made here up to 1928 by the Irish Lace industry. Rev. J. Meehan that founded both when he was curate in this parish. (R.I.P.)My mother was a teacher in the lace-class. The houses are all thatched with the exception of two slated and one of wood and corrugated iron. There are no mud-wall houses in Tawnylea. The word Tawnylea or Tamhnach Liath means a grey green field.There is a nice view of Belhavel Lake (or as it was called in former years Lough Lein) from my house. It got the name Belhavel from the landlord Montgomery's wife. Her name was Belle Havel. She was a French lady.There is much iron in this Creevelea district but it is not mined.
