- Churning
Once upon a time there lived a man in Killinumery. He kept eight cows. One Saturday morning in June he got up very early preparing to go to Sligo to sell butter. He went out to catch his ass to bring the butter to the train. When walking through the field he got a piece of rope lying on the ground. He picked it up and threw it in a barrel in the corner of the barn. Next time they churned they had a lot of butter on the churn more than twice the right amount. So they sent for the priest and had a mass said. The priest said they must have something in the house. At last the man thought of the rope he got in the field. The priest told him to burn it. The next time they churned they had the right amount of butter.- Collector
