    the potatoes were placed in a basket on the middle of the floor. All the family gathered around this basket peeled the potatoes with their finger nails and ate them with buttermilk. Sometimes they ate oatmeal bread which they took with buttermilk. They also ate boxty, slimcake, flunnery and brusey. They sometimes ate salted bacon and they sometimes killed cattle and cured them.The only vegetables eaten were cabbage and turnips which were seldom eaten. A wooden vessel called a noggin was used for drinking. This had a hoop and handle and was made by a cooper.
    Slimcake:- Boiled potatoes pounded and mixed with flour, a little salt and soda.
