- (continued from previous page)First they steeped it in water for twenty four hours. Then they strained it in a muslin cloth and boiled it. When it was boiled it was saved with cream or milk. The oatmeal cakes were made with oatmeal and water. When the ingredients were mixed together the cake was baked on a grid iron.
