- There was once a man named Jimmie Ward a native of Manorhamilton going round the country looking for charity. The people name him Forty Bags as he used to have a bag for every kind of food he would get such as flour meal, potatoes, bread, tea, and any other things they had for him. When he went into a house he threw his bags on the floor and took off his hat. Then he went down on his knees and offered up prayers for the people of the house and all that was dead belonging to them. He did not ask for anything but the people always gave him something in his bags. He stayed in Drumkeeran at night in Pat Flynn's as he used to keep poor people. It was a thatched house Pat Flynn had an there were three rooms in it. One of the rooms was for giving the poor a night's lodging. Before they went into the room they had to give threepence for their bed for that night. He would go the next day to other houses and that was how he made his living.
