- Oh, Paddy dear, it's many a year, since you and I have played
Our tricks and fun on everyone, and all the noise we made;
But times have changed since then, my boy, and now we're reckoned slow
If we attempt to do the things of Forty years ago.Right well do I remember, pat, the days we went to school,
The only we dreaded was the Masters famous rule;
And if we were five minutes late, by walking rather slow.
"Back home again," the order was some Forty years ago.The roll was called, the tasks were heard the writing class began,
The grammer and geography, forget I never can;
Arithmetic and book-keeping we were compelled to know,
Ah, Paddy, there was "something done" some Forty years agoThere's "Hand and Eye" and "Hook and Eye" for you and I to-day,
But all the useful subjects now have fallen to decay;
Still through the ever changing years, events will clearly show,
