    cloven-foot. Then, they recognised that he was the devil. They sent for a priest. When the priest came he ordered the 'devil' away. The 'devil' said he would not go until he got what he was promised - the full of his arms of a girl. The priest told him to be off and bring the full of his arms of stones. The devil immediately released the girl and brought all the stones he could gather out of the gable of the house.
    Since this incident occurred, the trick was forbidden and is, therefore not played at wakes nowadays.
