   There was a small hedge school in the town land of Clerhaumore. The teacher's name was Durkin. His salary was 2/6 per child - per year. If teacher had land his work was done as part payment for his services. The subjects taught were Reading, Writing Arithmetic Irish and Agriculture. The children sat on stones covered with moss. The master wrote on white B.B. with piece of burned stick.

   2. A second hedge school in the same towland was situated along the old Road.
   The Teacher's name was Sheerin.
   He received a shilling per month Salary. He went home with one of the scholars every night. He was supported free.
   He taught Irish & a little English. The only book he used was a Spelling Book.
   He wrote on flag with shank of clay pipe.
