- The preparation for thatching is done as follows. Sally rods which most frequently are used are pointed on both ends in order to go through the thatch easily.
Straw is usually used for thatching the dwelling houses and rushes may be used for thatching out houses.
Before the straw is used for thatching it is "buffed" and tied in little bundles for use.
A ladder which is used is left leaning against the house. The man thatches from the eave to the top a yard in width which is called a "stroke of thatch".- Collector
