Previous to Christmas in this locality all houses are cleaned inside and outside, and decorated with holly by the children which they gather after school hours. Ivy or mistletoe are not used in this district.
On Christmas Eve night it is an old custom to place a light in each window of the house. The children take a great delight in going to the top of a hill and looking at the "lights" in the neighbouring houses.
On this night also it is an old custom for the country people to leave the door open, place a light in the window, and sweep the hearth clean when(continues on next page)
