    Long ago there lived a Couple whose names were Mary and John.

    cows to the fair to sell her to buy flour for the children. After selling her he met prime boys and they kept him drinking until he had the last shilling spent. When he went home his wife asked him for the price of the half sack of flour and he said to her go over to my pocket and see is there any money in it. She went to his pocket and when she came back she said oh John there isn't a halfpenny in it what will I do for flour to make bread for the children's breakfast. John told her to go to the next house and borrow the bucket of flour until the next fair day. The next fair day came and he took another cow and every thing happened as usual. He met the boys and spent the last of his money. He went home and Mary asked him did he sell the cow and he said he did. She then asked him where the money was but it was the same story as before he had not a half-penny left. Mary said to him where would she get bread for the children and he
