- There were large wooden cans for drawing water. These cans had a timber handle on one side and when filled had to be taken on the head. A roll of cloth was made and put on the head underneath the can to keep it firm. A good sense of balance had to be achieved before a woman was able to take one of these cans of milk or water on the head. All these wooden vessels were scoured and kept white by cleaning them with heather.
