For years upon years to the world unknown,
They went their own way, none knew where they were going.
Far distant from life, and from all else far gone
And no road in the world ever led to Clahane.

Two strangers strayed in there one day in the quiet,
They came you must know from the country outside
Their names are Ned Sheehy and Michael Dillane
And they started things moving in Upper Clahane.

Ned Sheehy got set and broke out to the east
And a road he made there fit for man or for beast.
And the natives one morning saw a motor in the bawn
Twas good-bye to old times now in Upper Clahane.

For years upon years all previous to that
They rattled down the riverin the old horse and cart.
Down across Spur and out at Lyrecrompane
But old custom was best sure in Upper Clahane.

The habits of years it is hard to root out
And Moriarty's old mare, she pined for the old route.
