The teller of the story saw nothing, but saw that the priest had a frightful struggle to proceed, though making every exertion after going a few hundred yards this, fighting every inch of the way, he was violently thrown from his horse, sustaining a broken collar bone.
He mounted his animal again, and overtook his companion and arrived at their destination at about 2 o'c a.m.. They left Lixnaw Presbytery at 10 o'c p./mp.. This story is quite true. The delay on the road could never be accounted for by the teller of this story. The priest did not leave Irramore till dawn of day. Mrs. Costello (assistant here), a native, says a black dog has often been seen there.
The above story occurred in November 1900.
