    the roads until he met with a man on a white horse. He asked him for a cure for the whooping-cough. The man, perhaps, would tell him milk, water or whey, whatever he said to give the child for three mornings fasting, it would be given, and the child would survive.
    Where ever a hollow was in a tree with water in it was seen, the water was supposed to have the virtue of curing warts, sore eyes, small pox or similar ailments. Yellow meal and bran and roasted potatoes were used as cures too. Ivy cured a sore head. A cap was made of ivy leaves by sewing them together,
