- The people had a lot of old customs long ago.
(1) putting a coal under the churn in order to have a good churning.
(2) On Saint Brigids eve they used to make a plat of straw with oats on it, in the form of a cross, then they would get a potato and put it through the straw - when Spring would come that would be the first seed of oats they would sow, and the first slit they would sow.
(3) When the cow would have a calf they would tie a red string to the cows tail, so that nothing would happen the calf.- Collector
