    out with his army. Not agreeing with his brother and having the stronger army he began to drive them back and the Williamstown army fled before the Barmaderg army. They continued their flight until they came to Laught and there they fought a pitched battle. The Williamstown chieftain was killed and was buried behind the Boyle's shop. A memorial made of stones and mortar was erected to mark the place where he was buried.
    It was from that memorial that Laught got its name. There is also a turn in Laught which is called "Battle Street". It is so called because the inhabitants that lived there once were
