  1. This ruin is situated about four miles from this school. It was founded in the ninth century and was deserted when Cathal Crobh Dearg built a monastery in Abbey - Knockmoy.
After a century Queen Elizabeth bestowed it on a man called Ffrench, who in turn was evicted by Cromwell who gave the estate to one of his soldiers. This man's soldiers dismantled the Knockmoy Abbey while their master repaired Abbert Church to serve as a private place of worship.
He then sold the estate to Blakney who allowed the roof of the church to collapse. The latter and most of his descendants are buried within the ruin while the yard is used as a Catholic burial ground.
