- Long ago children had various pastimes most of which are pratised nowadays. The boys had different kinds of which was the catching of birds. In Winter they indulged very much in this pastime. The making of Cribs
These were made from rods in much the same manner as the skibs. To catch the birds the cribs were set in the haggard where the hens fed. Some food was put under the crib and it was raised a little from the ground by means of a fork-shaped stick called a "gablóg" When the bird attempted to get the food he knocked the gablóg and then the crib fell and entrapped the bird.(continues on next page)- Collector
