    at which cattle and sheep are sold on the same day. It is to be noted that horse fairs are never held in Carrick on-Shannon. Boyle and Mohill being the nearest centres to which the people of this town are obliged to go. The nearest sheep fair is Drumshanbo.
    At present fairs are held on the town-streets. Although forming only one fair, we hear of the Roscommon fair so called from the Roscommon fair so called from the Roscommon side of the town by which buyers enter The Leitrim fair being the other end of the town gets its name in a similar manner.
    Buyers still transact business at farmers houses.
