- In my townland of Sheafield there are four forts. It is said that long ago these forts were built to protect the people from Danes when they were in Ireland. A mound of earth was built hundreds of feet high. A deep trench was cut around the mound and trees were planted. The people were supposed to hide their valuables there. Lights have been seen in the forts. Cries are heard in them before some death occurs in the district. No one ever interferes with the forts when planting crops. In Tawnycurry there is a very ancient fort. There still remains the trench cut around it. In recent years lights have been seen in it.
