- There was once a man and his wife and they had but one daughter. She grew up good and strong, but at the age of sixteen she got very ill. The neighbours came in each day but still the girl kept failing away. One day a neighbouring woman came in and said that it was not their own daughter, was not in it at all. She said that the fairies had taken away the girl, and had left this one in her place. She told them to burn the girl and if it was a fairy she would not burn, and if she was their own she would.
The man put down a big fire and threw in the girl, and she burned away into dust. The man was going to be tried for his life.- Collector
