    on one, a melodeon on another and a singer on a third. As they drove around the country they were cheered by field workers and passers by and the wedding party returned to cheer in a vigorous lusty manner. When they reached home again the merry making went on as before. New comers crowded in who could not attend during the day and the handshaking with bride and groom and congratulations went on as in the morning after the marriage ceremony.
    As night fell the excitement increased as they were looking forward to the coming of the “Band Beggars”. The “band Beggars” were a crowd of boys and girls who dressed up in straw and came to the house in which the wedding was held. Sometimes the crowd consisted about forty or fifty. When they came in they asked for the bride and one of the leaders danced with the bride. Then each of them were served with a drink and they remained dancing for some time with the wedding party. If the Band beggars met with opposition or were not treated well they often gave trouble and the police had to be called in.
