  1. On one occasion a visitor came to this locality from England. He was born in England but was of Irish descent. He was a noted runner and had a number of medals which he won in running contests. I think his name was John Reynolds. He was known as the "Prize Runner". He beat a number of runners that challenged him in this district. On a certain Sunday a number had gathered to watch a contest between him and a noted Irish runner. The people of the district were disappointed when he had beaten all comers and they hoped that the race would be a success for the Irish runner. Francis Boyle was at the contest also a tall lad and barefooted. When the two started off an old man gave Francis Boyle a push out after them saying "Follow them you." Although having a bad start he quickly caught the other two who were almost together. He ran out between the two winning by several
