- Once a man named named Francis Carroll of Lough Rinn, Mohill, was friendly with a game-keeper of the same place. Once when the game-keeper was drunk he told O’Carroll to go on the demense and shoot game. On a Sunday when he came from first Mass he went to shoot. The game-keeper ordered him off the place he put up his gun and shot him the gamekeeper. The police were watching, he ran to the river Lurga in Gortletteragh. He took off his coat and swam to his home the other side, he had one rabbit he threw it in on the window to his mother. The people were coming home from second Mass the police were shouting “catch the fellow with the white shirt” they all took off their coats and followed him. They did not know him for they all had white shirts. So he got to America in a sugar barrel. He was never heard of since.
