- Fairs were held locally in olden times. The fairs now are held in the towns. The people transacted business in the country at the farmers houses. Some fairs were held in the streets and others in a place known as a "fair green".
Toll is paid on cattle sold. The man that lifts the toll in Mohill is Henry Nicholl. The toll paid is four pence per head. When an animal is sold luck penny is given. It is calculated at the rate of a half-crown on every ten pounds.
When the bargain is made the buyer marks the cattle with mud or a raddle and sometimes by clipping them on the side. If there is a halter on the animal sold, it is generally retained.
