    with his pupils to their houses and spent his night with them.
    Michael Higgins once told me that in winter time when the pupils could not sit down on the wet hedge to learn their lessons it was usual for them to bring two sads of turf with them, every morning one to sit upon and the other to make a fire.
    Alec never taught the pupils any Irish and he as paid a shilling a quarter gave to him by each pupil who attended his school.
    At present Thomas Butler owns the field in which that hedge-school was situated and they call it the school
