- (continued from previous page)conjuction with General Sean Mac Eoin and the late Divisional Commander Sean Connolly who was killed in action with British Forces at Garvagh, Co. Leitrim. He worked continually from 1917 helping at elections to drive out the Irish Party and helped largely to organise the Sinn Feín Courts in Co. Longford and they were a marked success. The organising of such Courts went a long way to smash British power in this country. He was "A wanted man" from 1920 until the Truce in July 1921. If he was captured by the British Forces during that time he would be executed. He took part in most of the Barrack attacks and ambushes in Co. Longford and adjoining counties. The most notable of these engagements were Cloonfin and Ballinalee. In Cloonfin with himself and about a dozen men under Comdt., Sean Mac Eoin and Comdt., Duffy they captured two lorries of the notorious Auxiliaries, got a machine gun, seventeen rifles, twenty two revolvers, a lot of ammunition and bombs.
