    the barn or dairy so that in case anything would happen before the next churning there would be some unsalted butter to make cures or to rub to things.
    Long ago if a person came in while you were churning and didn't take a brash, the person churning said:- "God bless your hands and God bless your eyes" so that they could not take the butter or give the churning an ill eye.
    Long ago the doors were shut and the fire was put out. If there is a back and front door on a house, one of them should always be shut while the churning is going on.
    If you ever enter a house and churning going on you should always put your hand to the dash and say:- "God bless the work"
    Oftentimes a horse shoe was nailed to the bottom of the churn. This. Kept the fairies away, as the fairies hate iron especially that which is wrought and shaped by a blacksmith
    If a person comes in for the loan of a coal or to light his pipe and churning going on, he should be made throw back the coal into the fire after lighting his pipe.
