    members prepared a crib in the corner of the parlour. This consisted of a picture of the crib and some holy pictures. Before returning to bed on Xmas Eve all the members of the family gathered around this and said the family rosary.
    There is a tradition that a donkey bends his knee when the clock strikes twelve on Christmas Eve. I have heard of a donkey being brought into the house at 12 oclock one Xmas Eve about 40 years ago. When the clock struck 12 he neighed. All laughed and he was put out. The boy who brought him in cried to see that he did not do as he expected.
    On Christmas morning some of the family went to Mass fasting to receive Holy Communion and those who were not receiving took three mouthfuls of holy water and no breakfast until they came home. Then a breakfast of meal was prepared. After the breakfast the men went to hunt hares and rabbits and the women began to prepare the dinner. This consisted of potatoes, cabbage boiled or roast beef and roast turkey or goose. There was no dessert. Dinner was taken
