- Long ago the dwelling houses in my district were made of mud. The walls and the floor were made of mud and they were thatched with straw. The fires used to be at the gable end. All settle beds that were used. They used to be in the corner near the fire. There were no chimneys in the houses and the smoke used to go out through the thatch. When the(continues on next page)
