    Within the ruins of the Abbey of Kyrie Eleison are buried the remains of Bishop Christian O'Conarchy. He was Bishop of Lismore and the papal legate at the time of his death.
    Kyrie Eleison Abbey was built in 1154. It is believed there was an Irish province of the Cistercians long before the Normans came. There was no parish of Abbeydorney in the olden times, because the whole parish and many of the surrounding parishes belonged to the Abbey.
    The monks of the Abbey collected dues at all fairs held in the village. That is the reason the Christmas Fair is ever still called "The Fair of the Cross".
    It is said the present church in the village was built with stones removed from the Abbey. That is the reason the church has the peculiar doorway.
    There is no holy well in this side of the parish. There is a holy well named Tobar Flainn near the village of Kilflynn.
    The Abbey of Kyrie Eleison was very important down to the time of Cromwell. Many monks from this Abbey were bishops of
