- In the time when the priests were hunted out of Ireland there was a priest living in Kerry, and the soldiers were always looking for him. One day as they were coming along the road from Ardfert to Abbeydorney they saw the priest saying Mass in a little valley. The bloodhounds set out at once to the place where the priest was. Just as the priest was rising the chalice, the bloodhounds made an attack on him. At that moment three wethers leaped out of a bush near the priest, and the bloodhounds followed them but the wethers were too fast for them. The soldiers then followed their dogs, and did nothing to the priest. After a while the soldiers found their dogs but there was no trace of the sheep. Then they returned to where they left the priest but he had the Mass finished and there was nothing left where he stood but a little well. It is said that if anyone had a disease and believed in that well he would be cured. The name of that well is Wethers' Well.
