“A man who had never worn shoes gathered enough money to buy a pair.”
A man who had never worn shoes gathered enough money to buy a pair. He went to the shop and bought a pair of strong shoes or "boots", which were tied at the back with a piece of twine. When he got outside the town he put them on and walked home but did not arrive there until 3 or 4 o'clock the next morning. He had moved only a few inches at each step as the twine was still tying the two boots together!
