- (continued from previous page)between two stones which were at the bottom of this tree. After a certain time she was to return - dig under the tree & there she would find the crock of gold. She paid little attention to the story till after her marriage - When she came to live in her new house she noticed it was situated as the dwarf had told her. The stream, the garden, the tree and the two stones were all there as was described to her by the little woman. She wondered if the crock of gold were really there or if it would be safe to try to find it. She went to Father White, parish priest at the time and him the the story - He said he would accompany her to the west side of fence within fifty yards of the tree and she could then do as the little woman told her.
But she could not sumeup sufficient courage to go through the performance. The crock & the tree remained there & remains there still untouched. Her grandson, Patt Tiernan who gave this story to me, pointed out the tree under which the crock is supposed to lie hidden.- Collector
