- There are many different accounts about the famous "Stirring Rock" of Masshill. Here is one of them. There is supposed to be a pot of gold buried under it. A witch is minding the gold night and day. It is said that she is always spinning.Another belief is that the Stirring Rock is really the grave stone of some great giant of the olden times. The rock is called Carraig na Bogaide by the old people.
It was Michael Haran who related these accounts, they, having been told to him by his father Edward Haran who lives at the foot of the mountain on which is situated this strange rock.
Edward Haran, farmer, aged 40, was born and reared in this place- Collector
