- Every night when the lamp is lit we all sit by the fireside listening to my Grandfather telling stories. Here are some tales which he told about the night of the big wind in 1839. The storm arose about twelve o' clock in the night. My grandfather said that all the people of the place were out trying to save their oats and hay stacks from been blown away. It was believed that anyone born that night would get the pension on the following 1909. That night a man nick-named Leach went out saving a cock of hay that was being blown away by the wind.
