- There are some very strange names on places in Masshill. I know of an old pool in the river of "Owen Aar" called "Poll Leon". It derives its name from an old story of a man called "Leon" who was drowned in it. Another pool is called "Poll Cam". The reason it is called "Poll Cam" is that it is a crooked hole. In our farm is a field called "Guilceac". "Guilceac" signifies a strange weed which grows plentifully in it. There is a field in front of our house called "Moinear Mor" which means the big meadow.A neighbouring man called Mike Gallagher owns a field called "A Garb" which means the Rough-field. It is full of old tree stumps, roots and weeds. Hugh(continues on next page)
