- In our neighbouring district in the parish of Kilmactiege is a lake called "Lough Talt" which the old stories tell us was formed by enchantment. It is supposed that Lough Easkey, Lough Talt and Lough Owen were three sisters and they were changed by a spell into three lakes. They will remain in that state until the end of end of time. There is a heathery island in the middle of Lough Talt and every seven years terrible crying is heard on it. It is said that it was a burial place in olden days.
