  1. The old people of our neighbourhood have many strange beliefs and customs connected with Christmas. The following are some of them:-

    It was an old custom long ago to quench the fire with water on Christmas night for fear Saunta Claus would get burned. It is also customary to leave a box in the fire-place and a basin of cold water for him to wash his hands in. In most houses crosses are made out of straw. Whoever succeeded in making the most crosses would have good luck throughout the year. It was an old custom for all to clip their
