It was impossible to go out, the thunder was heavy and the lightening came in rapid succession. A short time after there was an awful rainstorm, the lands were all flooded. We were unable to get out the road gate, as it was nearly five feet high on the avenue. The horse often lost his feet and had to swim, as the water was almost over his back.
Our cattle were swimming in the bog and could not find the bank to get out, until the flood went down a little. The flood destroyed all the grass for a long time as cattle would not eat it, it being all sand and mud.
