- Long ago the Fenians were mighty in Ireland, there was a battle at Chucha which we call Castle-knock now, and Cumhal, their chief, was killed.
Cumhals little son Finn, was hidden in the forests lest his father's enemies should find him. He was reared in a little hunting lodge on sliabh Bloom. In order to make Finn swift an nimble, his nurse used to chase him round and round a big tree, trying to strike him with a switch, while he in his turn tried to overtake her and tuch her with a switch that he carried.
