The house went on fire because the chimney had not been cleaned for a while past. The inhabitants of the house were all out visiting, except one. They left a girl at home minding the house. There were only three people living in the house. When they arrived home in the evening they found it on fire. The left the locality and went to Donegal.
- Close on forty years ago, between Strandhill and Darnish Island four people were drowned. It was the 15th day of August 1897, when three girls, two Protestant sisters, natives of Rosses Point, and another young girl, a native of this parish went out for a pleasure cruise in a boat.
