- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)The old people tell us that there was a hedge school in Knockanarrow about a hundred years ago. The school was an old barn which was situated in the place where the Protestant school is more.
In this school there was a man teaching whose name was Gallagher. The scholars who attended this school were not children but adults. The fee which this man used to get was two or three shillings a week which the scholars used give him.
Some of the scholars how attended it how could not afford to pay the fee used to bring the teacher to their houses and keep him for the night. They used also bring a sod of turf to the school for a fine. In this way they kept a fine for the winter.
The subject which they used learn were Reading Writing and Arithmetic.
