  2. The remains of an old castle still stands in the glory of the sunset on the side of the main road between Sligo and Boyle. It is situated on a round summit of a low hill overlooked by a higher green, hill.
    The history of this castle is obscure. It is said that De Burgo of Connaught made an old road that starts in Boyle and runs to the town of Sligo and from that to the north. This castle was erected on the side of this old road to guard the road for transferring armies.
